The island’s second largest city is the main port, the centre of the wine industry and a bustling holiday resort. It spreads out between two ancient city-kingdoms Amathus to the east and Kourion with its Greek-Roman theatre to the west, two of the most spectacular archaeological sites in Cyprus. The tourists can enjoy a summer concert under the stars in the Greek-Roman theatre of Kourion.

The old town Lemesos or Limassol is the heart of the city with its narrow streets radiating out from the old fishing harbour. The medieval Lemesos castle was the site of a royal wedding in the Middle Ages between Richard the Lionheart, King of England and Berengaria of Navarre and now houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum.

The town has grown in recent years and now covers a 15 kilometres coastline lined with hotels and apartment blocks, interspersed with eucalyptus groves and linked by a promenade popular with walkers or joggers.

Kyperounta Winery

The winery is located at Kyperounda, in the Pitsilia area of the Troodos range, 75 km from Nicosia and 50 km from Limassol. It prides itself for the unusually high altitude at 1400 metres it is the highest in Europe and one of the highest of the world. It was setup in the late 1990s by a few local grape producers and in the year 2000, Photos Photiades Group joined as a major shareholder. Today the company is owned by more than 40 shareholders with control and management placed in the hands of Photos Photiades Group.

Their expertise combines the knowledge in beverage distribution and the art of wine making. This blends with the support of a most capable and talented young oenologist, Mr Minas Mina, a formula that has succeeded in delivering wines of the highest quality. The production capacity of the winery is about 300,000 bottles. Situated in this idyllic setting and designed to the specifications of experienced winemakers, the Kyperounda Winery is built on three levels in order to take advantage of gravity to move the grape juice in the gentlest possible way.

Tsiakkas Winery

Tsiakkas winery was established in 1988 just outside Pelendri village on the Troodos Mountains, in the Pitsilia wine region. The first year’s production was 500 bottles of a red wine called Thyrsos. Gradually new wines were made with the addition of a white and a rose wine. The very first wines were made from local varieties as the international varieties were almost nonexistent in the Pitsilia region. In the late 90s, more and more international varieties were used to make the wines of the winery. These varieties included Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Cabernet, Merlot and Grenache. Although some of them are still used by the winery, in the recent years, there is a shift towards Cypriot varieties. Old forgotten varieties are replanted like Yiannoudi and Promara. More research was done on Xynisteri and Vamvakada, both in the vineyard and the winery. Recently a new style of Commandaria and Zivania were added to the products of the winery. The total acreage of the vineyards under winery management stands now at 13 hectares.

Vlassides Winery

The Winery cultivates and manages 21 hectares of vineyards all around the village of Koilani, in Limassol, at altitudes between 700 and 1100 meters. They offer organized tours at the Winery include a detailed presentation of the winemaking procedures from the vineyard to the tank, and then to the barrel. The tour last around 40 minutes and cost 12€ per person. You can enjoy this tour with a wine tasting of 4 current vintage wines. Along with Sophocles Vlassides himself as your personal guide, you can visit the vineyard of the estate, see the wine production areas and experience a wine tasting accompanied by the winemaker. You can additionally enjoy experimental wines, older and current vintages, straight from the barrels.

Zambartas Winery

Zambartas Wineries was founded by Akis Zambartas in 2006. After years in the wine business as Chief Winemaker and Managing Director of one of the biggest wine producers in Cyprus, he decided to follow his dream of establishing his own boutique winery. The pivotal point was the decision of his son, Marcos Zambartas, to quit the corporate world and fly to Australia to become a winemaker.

In 2007 the Zambartas Winery was built in the Krasochoria region in Agios Amvrosios village, on the southern slope of the Troodos Mountains near Limassol. The first years working together in the new winery were a constant quest for finding good quality grapes and creating high quality wines. In the meanwhile we managed to build a brand that people would grow to love. Enjoy wine experience selecting the most suitable wine tasting for you.
